I've been thinking hard about the way
Life is in a Texas cage
Do they celebrate their sons' birthdays?
Does everybody get a slice of cake, or am I mistaken?
And are they handing out handsome pamphlets of a Mr. Reagan?
And I've been wondering what it's like to see
This country as my property
And my inheritance as God's decree
As if I've earned what I'm bound to be, oh I'd be mistaken
As I accredit my success to all these money moves I'm making
But I'm guilty as anyone
These poems cannot undo what I've done
I'm a felon on the run
I was born with a loaded gun
I've been wondering what I ought to do
When nobody believes the news
And everybody listens to whatever they choose
Well maybe everybody's being used and we are all mistaken
And we're all paying for these private planes and affair vacations
But I'm guilty as anyone
These poems cannot undo what I've done
I'm a felon on the run
I was born with a loaded gun
I'm guilty as anyone
These poems cannot undo everything I've done
I'm a felon and I, and I'm on the run
I was born as a loaded gun
